Due to the rapid entry into an aging society, awareness of the need to prepare for retirement is increasing. Although there is a difference in degree from that of the general public, post-retirement issues regarding pastors with special status who lead religious lives have not been the focus of many studies. This study examined the factors influencing the stabilization of economic life after retirement for two groups, current and retired pastors contemplating retirement, using small churches with less than 50 members of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (Hapshin) as a sample. As a result of the study, the benefits of pastors, such as physical and mental health, stable income, and public and private pensions, were the same items that could easily be found in the general public. However, in the case of pastors, housing issues after retirement and the need for retirement preparation education were identified as major influencing factors after retirement. This result is because, for small church pastors, the housing problem is a reality that is difficult to cover with retirement expenses. In the case of retirement preparation education, pastors recognize that it is their calling to entrust their old age to God and focus only on ministry, so preparation for retirement itself is dismissed as a lack of faith, and the need for retirement education is ignored. The denomination's general assembly should encourage interest in pastors’ retirement preparation by regularly organizing socially, economically, and theologically balanced programs for pastors’ retirement preparation education through pastors’ retreats. In addition, to solve the residential housing problem, the church must establish short-term and short-term alternatives and provide service and interest in stabilizing the economic life of pastors after retirement so that they can continue to live an honorable retirement life.
